This marvellous drawing is the direct preparatory sketch for an oil painting, located at the Sabauda Gallery in Turin, and which is one of the large depictions of battles Huchtenburgh created on behalf of the imperial field commander Prince Eugene of Savoy, during he accompanied him on his campaigns between 1708 and 1717. It originates from the private collection of Anton W.M. Mensing (1866 - 1936), director and owner of Frederik Muller & Co., former famous auctioneers in Amsterdam. His extensive collection of artworks and various scientific instruments was internationally famed, emphasis of his collection were on works by Dutch and Flemish artists from the Golden Age, which also includes the present remarkably beautiful drawing.

Provenienz:
Privatsammlung Anton W.M. Mensing, Amsterdam; Nachlass Blankenhorn, Badenweiler.
