Seltene Fußschale mit kupferrotem Dekor
Rare copper red decorated stemcup. China, Wanli mark and period. Porcelain, painted in underglaze red. Six character Wanli mark with double ring to well.
Already in the Yuan period the potters used an underglaze copper red. Although the copper oxide was unstable, volatile and difficult to control during the action of heat and the colour often took on a different red shade, the copper red was highly valued as a decorative colour in the 15th Century and especially in the Xuande period. Like on this stemcup the red decors became often blurred under the oily glaze. For this reason the potters gave up this difficult technique and started to use an iron red which was heated in a muffle furnace.

Bereits in der Yuan-Zeit verwendeten die Töpfer ein unter der Glasur aufgetragenes Kupferrot. Doch trotz des schwer zu kontrollierenden Brennvorgangs, in dem das dafür verwendete Kupferoxid oftmals eine unterschiedliche Rotfärbung annahm, wurde das Kupferrot als Dekorfarbe im
