Thangka der Weißen Tara
Tibet um 1800. Gouache auf Stoff, auf Unterlage montiert. Zentrale Darstellung des Bodhisattvas der vollkommenen Reinheit vor der hellen Mondscheibe im padmasana auf Lotosthron, umgeben von weiteren Gottheiten. Eine Hand hält sie in akasha mudra, mit der anderen umfasst sie als Zeichen ihrer Reinheit eine weiße Lotusblüte. Altersspuren, Retuschen.

Thangkas sind meist auf Leinen gemalte Rollbilder aus Tibet, Nepal und Indien, die zur Meditation in buddhistischen Tempeln aufgehängt werden. Dargestellt sind entweder Buddha oder Bodhisattvas, wie die Weiße Tara.

Central depiction of the Bodhisattva of perfect purity in front of the bright moon disk in the padmasana on the lotus throne, surrounded by other deities. She holds one hand in akasha mudra, with the other she holds a white lotus blossom as a sign of her purity. Signs of age, retouchings.

Thangkas are scroll paintings from Tibet, Nepal and India, mostly painted on linen, which are hung up for meditation in Buddhist temples. They depict either Buddha or Bodhisattvas, like the White Tara.
