«No amount of pleading will help, no amount of gnashing of teeth,
But maybe cherries will.»
Harry Rowohlt's verse to Rudi Hurzlmeier's «Pieper» first appeared in the book «Happy Birds-Day», which has been published in numerous editions since 2004. «Pieper» appears on both the title and the back cover of the little book, which takes up all-too-human themes with heartbreakingly funny depictions of birds, always accompanied or accentuated by Harry Rowohlt's rhymes. The green lady bird with her jaunty red pumps and pleading eyes, familiar to many from the publication, here now in the original.
