Marie Schnyder von Wartensee descended from the family of the same name in the Lucerne region. Although little is known about her, it is safe to say that many artists, painters and musicians preceded her in the family, through which she encountered the cultural world at a young age. She was probably married to the Lucerne lawyer Dr. Franz Zelger (1864 - 1944), the son of the painter Josef Zelger.
