Olaf Christiansen was the son of Hans Christiansen (1866 - 1974), one of the co-founders of the Mathildenhöhe artists’ colony in Darmstadt. In the spirit of Art Nouveau, Hans Christiansen was active in almost all creative fields of painting, graphics and arts and crafts. The influence of the father on the son is clear: both use the same monogram with the initials of their surname.
