Oil on cardboard, mounted on masonite. Signed lower right and dated (19)28.
Olaf Christiansen was the son of Hans Christiansen (1866 - 1974), one of the co-founders of the Mathildenhöhe artists’ colony in Darmstadt. In the spirit of Art Nouveau, Hans Christiansen was active in almost all creative fields of painting, graphics and arts and crafts. The influence of the father on the son is clear: both use the same monogram with the initials of their surname.
We would like to thank Dr. Philipp Gutbrod, director of Institut Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt, for the kind remarks via
