Paintings by Peter Tollens usually give the first impression that one is looking at something monochrome. When approaching the works, one recognises an interplay of different colours. The pastose painting style is executed in vertical and horizontal brush strokes and consists of several superimposed layers. Small and recesses in the application of paint reveal the varying colours.
