In the 1980s Tibebe Terffa frequently painted his hometown of Harari. The traditional Muslim town is now not only a melting pot of the most diverse religions and ethnicities, but also an important trading centre. Colourful patterns of women's garments and classical basketry characterise Terffa's art.
