«Entwurf für Meistersänger (draft for Meistersänger)».
Pencil and India ink, partially washed, on cream paper, mounted under passepartout at the upper margin. Numbered «159» upper right. Verso estate stamp «Nachlass: Michael Echter (estate: Michael Echter)». Verso on the passepartout on a collection label handwritten dated «ca 1860», titled, inscribed «Echter Michael» and numbered «562D - 15».
H 23,6, W 32,8 cm (sheet). Unframed.
The present drawing is to be seen as a preparatory work for the watercolour kept in the King Ludwig II Museum in the Neues Schloss of Herrenchiemsee (inventory number L.II.Mus.707), which depicts the rehearsal singing of the knight Walther von Stolzing in the first act of Richard Wagner's opera «Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg». A comparable drawing by Michael Echter, showing the same motif, is situated in the Richard Wagner Museum in Bayreuth with the inventory number Bi 1239-7.

Bleistift und Tusche, teilweise laviert, auf chamoisfarbenem Papier, am oberen Rand unter Passepartout montiert. O.r. «159» num. Verso Nachlassstempel «Nachlass: Michael Echter». Verso auf dem Passepartout auf einem Sammlungsetikett handschriftlich «ca 1860» dat., bet., bez. «Echter Michael» und «562D - 15» num.
H. 23,6, B. 32,8 cm (Blattgröße). Ungerahmt.
Die vorliegende Zeichnung ist als eine vorbereitende Arbeit für das im König Ludwig II.-Museum im Neuen Schloss Herrenchiemsee aufbewahrte Aquarell (Inventarnr. L.II.Mus.707) zu betrachten, welches das Probesingen des Ritters Walther von Stolzing im ersten Akt von Richard Wagners Oper «Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg» darstellt. Eine vergleichbare Zeichnung aus der Hand von Michael Echter, dasselbe Motiv darstellend, befindet sich im Richard Wagner Museum in Bayreuth mit der Inventarnummer Bi 1239-7.
