Napoleon III Boulle cylinder desk
France around 1870/90. Mahogany and other woods, veneered, red tortoiseshell, bronze and brass, engraved. Four curved legs with floral bronze fittings, ending in four childlike caryatids with floral decoration. Curved frame with one drawer, cylinder bureau with three recessed small drawers, above a storage compartment, centrally a sliding, geometrically parquetry writing surface with green leather inlay. Finally, two small drawers and a smooth top. Frame drawer, cylinder and final drawers with rich, floral boulle inlay work, finely engraved in parts. All edges with ornamental bronze fittings, thread inlays in brass on the sides and two large floral bronze ornaments. Original fittings and locks.
