Napier Hemy, Charles
1841 Newcastle-upon-Tyne - 1917 Falmouth.
Fishing boat and cottage at the seashore.
Oil on canvas. Signed lower left and dated 1896. Verso inscribed with the artist's data.
H 21, W 41 cm (support). Framed.
Charles Napier Hemy was based in Cornwall and is known for his marine pieces. In 1910 he was elected a member of the Royal Academy London. He was not only a painter, but a profound connoisseur of the sea. Napier Hemy even had his own ship converted into a studio where he studied and painted the Cornish coast directly from the sea. The present work is probably an oil study from an early period of his career.
