The French painter Adolphe Louis Gaussen (1871 - 1954) maintained an art collection besides to his own artistic work, being pursued after his death. It can be presumed that the drawing has been created explicitly for his collection, for the name Gaussen is legible in a prominent position.
Prof. Dr. Roland Doschka, former Academic Council of the University Freiburg i.Br., planned several exhibitions of Classical Modernism as a curator of the Balinger Kunsthalle. Thanks to his friendship with Picasso, he could display works in his exhibitions that the public had rarely seen.
