Monogrammist M.B.
Italian vedute painter 19th C.
Port of Ancona.
Oil on canvas. Monogrammed lower left. Paint loss in the sky.

As an important port on the Adriatic Sea, Ancona is still today a point of departure for sea voyages such as to Greece. With its numerous churches and Roman ruins the tranquil seaport was already an attraction on many journeys to Italy in the 19th century. Vedute, like the present work, were treasured souvenirs that visitors from the north brought home from their educational journeys.
Provenance: private possession Markgräflerland.

Italienischer Vedutenmaler 19. Jh.
Hafen von Ancona.
Öl auf Leinwand. U.l. monogr. Farbfehlstellen im Himmel.
H. 23, B. 32 cm. Prunkrahmen.
