Feininger, Lyonel
1871 New York - 1956 Berlin.
City view with church. Watercolour and India ink on ribbed (Vergé) paper by Ingres (watermark). Signed lower left and dated 13.VII.(19)55 lower right.
Depictions of churches, villages and city views are belonging to the most famous works by Feininger. Since the 1920s the influence of the Bauhaus-aesthetics dominates increasingly. Very accurate straight lines and clear geometric shapes, exemplary visible in the present work by Feininger, are replacing the more dynamic and agitated compositions from his earlier creative period. Since the 1950s works executed in watercolour are gaining importance within his oeuvre.
Provenance: private collection Hesse.
Photo certificate: Achim Moeller, Managing Principal, The Lyonel Feininger Project LLC, New York, 05.03.2014.
Archive: The present work is registered in the archive of the Lyonel Feininger Project, New York - Berlin, under the number 111-02-23-05.

deutsch 1871 New York - 1956 Berlin.
Provenienz: Privatsammlung Hessen.
Photo-Zertifikat: Achim Moeller, Managing Principal, The Lyonel Feininger Project LLC, New York, 05.03.2014.
