Jannis Kounellis is regarded as a leading representative and founder of the Italian artist's movement called «Arte Povera». Key motif of his art is the combination and rearrangement of natural and industrial materials like hemp, wool, hair, charcoal, metal and glass, taken from everyday life or nature, into spectacular spatial installations, performances and object art.

Jannis Kounellis gilt als wichtiger Vertreter und Mitbegründer der italienischen Künstlerbewegung «Arte Povera». Zentrales Motiv seiner Kunst ist es, natürliche und industrielle Materialien, wie beispielsweise Hanf, Wolle, Haare, Kohle, Metall und Glas, die dem Alltagsleben oder der Natur entstammen, zu meist spektakulären räumlichen Installationen, Performances und Objektkunst zu verbinden.
