Kounellis, Jannis
Geb. 1936 Piräus, lebt und arbeitet in Rom.
Untitled. 1989. Assemblage of iron, lead and jute. Unsigned.
In his works the Italian based Greek artist represents the relationship between nature and culture, using so-called «poor materials». For this purpose he classifies them into groups of organic, inorganic and prefabricated materials and ennobles them up to symbols and icons for evolution, energy and transparency. Central motifs of his works, created from seemingly at random found objects, are «bottles, numbers and letters» and, like in the present work, «bodies on metal».
Authentication: We would like to thank Mr Patrice Cotensin, Gallery Lelong, Paris, for the authentication via E-Mail, based on photos.
Provenance: Gallery Lelong, Paris, 1989; since then private collection.
Literature: Catalogue Gallery Lelong, Kounellis. Exposition Galerie Lelong, Repères No. 60, Paris 1989, p. 22, No. 8 (cf.).
Please note that transport has to be executed by a specialised shipper.

This auction item is subject to 19 % statutory import duties added to the net price (hammer price + premium).

deutsch Geb. 1936 Piräus, lebt und arbeitet in Rom.
Ohne Titel. 1989. Assemblage aus Eisen, Blei und Jute. Unsign. H. 204, B. 184, T. 21 cm.
