In 1976, Patek Philippe presented the sporty yet elegant Nautilus, the «enfant terrible» of the collection, to the public. «The case of the Patek Philippe Nautilus is based on the shape of a bull's eye. The name originates from the famous novel ‹Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas› by Jules Verne. The bull's eyes of Captain Nemo's submarine Nautilus had a similar oval shape in some depictions. [...] With the name Nautilus, Patek Philippe therefore emphasised an important feature of the watch: its very high pressure resistance for that time. In advertisements, the Nautilus was displayed on two equipped wrists: ‹It fits a diving suit as well as a dinner jacket.›» from: https://www.watchtime.net/uhren/patek-philippe-nautilus-damals-und-heute.
