Früher Brief, aus seiner Zeit als Volksschullehrer in Puchberg, an den englischen Linguisten Charles Kay Ogden, den Übersetzer seines «Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus», der ihm sein zusammen mit I.A. Richards verfasstes Buch «The Meaning of Meaning» gesandt hatte.
«...The meaning of meaning reached me a few daies ago. The 'other things' you mention must have got lost, except Keynes's edition of the Manchester Guardian. In the last month I have not been quite well, my nerves beeing run down badly by much work & excitement. This is the reason why I have not yet been able to read your book thoroughly. I have however read in it and I think I ought to confess to you frankly that I believe you have not quite caught the problems which - for instance - I was at in my book (wether or not I have given the correct solution) [...] Please excuse my remark about your book. I did not make it because I thought that you were interested in my opinion about it, but mearly for the sake of frankness...»
In seinem Brief an Bertrand Russell vom 7.IV.1923 gab Wittgenstein ein drastisches Urteil über Ogdens Buch ab: «Is it not a miserable book?!....I have seldom read anything so foolish» (zit. nach Ray Monk, Ludwig Wittgenstein, S. 214). Bei der erwähnten Veröffentlichung von Keynes handelt es sich um den Artikel «Reconstruction in Europe».
Der schöne und philosophisch wertvolle Autograph Wittgensteins ist von größter Seltenheit.
