Biedermeier portrait painter
Silesia circa 1835.
Two counterparts. The Maercker couple on the occasion of their marriage in 1835 in Brieg/Silesia. Lady in a blue dress. Gentleman with walking cane.
Gouache on paper, mounted on cardboard. Unsigned. Verso on the back board inscribed by a different hand «Unsere geliebte Mutter in ihrer Jugend Ida Maercker geb. Kartscher 1835. geb. Brieg d. 27t. December 1813. gest. Brieg d. 27t. Februar 1878. (our beloved mother in her youth Ida Maercker née Kutscher 1835. born Brieg 27th December 1813. died Brieg 27th February 1878.)» respectively «Unser geliebter Vater [...] Fritz Maercker [...] 1835. geb. Eberswalde 1806. gest. Brieg 1845. (our beloved father [...] Fritz Maercker [...] 1835. born Eberswalde 1806. died Brieg 1845.)».
H 18, W 15 cm. Elaborate frames.
The pair of portraits of the Maercker couple shows similarities to the portrait watercolours of the Silesian artist friends Philipp Hoyoll, Amandus Pelz and Raphael Schall.
Provenance: Heinrich Pohlmann (1839 - 1917), German sculptor, and successors.

Gouache auf Papier, auf Karton kaschiert. Unsign. Verso auf der Rahmenrückwand von fremder Hand bez. «Unsere geliebte Mutter in ihrer Jugend Ida Maercker geb. Kartscher 1835. geb. Brieg d. 27t. December 1813. gest. Brieg d. 27t. Februar 1878.» bzw. «Unser geliebter Vater [...] Fritz Maercker [...] 1835. geb. Eberswalde 1806. gest. Brieg 1845.».

Das Bildnispaar der Eheleute Maercker zeigt Ähnlichkeiten zu den Porträtaquarellen der schlesischen Künstlerfreunde Philipp Hoyoll, Amandus Pelz und Raphael Schall.
