Paul Müller-Kaempff, a painter from Oldenburg, became famous at the end of the 19th century for his landscape paintings and as co-founder of the artists' colony Ahrenshoop. His work focuses on the traditional architecture of the farmhouses and the rough coastal landscape of the Baltic Sea with its wind-sculpted sand dunes and trees. On his forays along the coast he examined the changing atmosphere of the landscape in the course of the seasons.
