First edition of the successful standard work about the discovery of America and the conquest of Mexico and Peru with maps by Thomas Kitchin (1718 - 1787).
Provenance: Elizabeth Herbert, countess of Pembroke and Montgomery (1737 - 1831, notification of owner).
In the early 1760s Elizabeth Herbert was the Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Charlotte of the United Kingdom. She is said to have maintained an affair with the Queen's husband King George III.

Elizabeth Herbert war in den frühen 1760er Jahren die Kammerdame der Königin Charlotte von Großbritannien. Ihr wird eine Liebschaft mit deren Mann König Georg III. nachgesagt.
