The picture was taken in 1981 in the Städel Museum, Frankfurt a.M. The work in the background is Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein's (1751 Haina - 1829 Eutin) «Goethe in the Roman Campagna» from 1787. Since 2014 there is also a print of the photograph in the collection of the Städel Museum.

Die Aufnahme entstand im Jahr 1981 im Städel Museum, Frankfurt a.M. Bei dem Werk im Hintergrund handelt es sich um Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbeins (1751 Haina - 1829 Eutin) «Goethe in der römischen Campagna» von 1787. Seit 2014 befindet sich auch ein Abzug der Photographie in der Sammlung des Städel Museum.
