Paris 1766. Four parts in two volumes. First vol. 676 p., second vol. 137 copper plates (not collated). Vol. 1 text volume, vol. 2 plate volume with numerous folding maps. Leather binding with gold embossing. Good condition. Binding slightly scuffed and rubbed. Isolated sides and plates stained and light-stained. Pencil notes of vol. 1 on the endpaper.

The monumental work was commissioned by the Paris Academy of Sciences, whose correspondent member had been Bédos de Celles (1709 - 1779) since 1767. It summarizes all the knowledge of the time about organ building and it was the only work that described organ building completely and according to the state of the art up to the 19th century. Particularly noteworthy are the numerous detailed depictions of all areas of organ building in the plate volume.

Das monumentale Werk entstand im Auftrag der Pariser Akademie der Wissenschaften, deren korrespondierendes Mitglied seit 1767 Bédos de Celles (1709 - 1779) war. Es fasst das gesamte Wissen der Zeit über den Orgelbau zusammen und war bis ins 19. Jahrhundert hinein das einzige Werk, das den Orgelbau vollständig und dem Stand der Wissenschaft entsprechend beschrieb. Besonders bemerkenswert sind die zahlreichen detaillierten Darstellungen aus allen Bereichen des Orgelbaus im Tafelband.
