Professor Hermann Dischler

25th September 1866 – 20th March 1935

Hermann Dischler was born on the 25th of September in 1866 in Freiburg i.Br. He received his artistic training in the art school in Karlsruhe, he was student of Gustav Schönleber. Thereafter he was engaged as a painter in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald area.

1894, after he finished his studies, he built himself an artist’s workroom in Freiburg i.Br. At this time he went on a lot of trips and his trusty camera followed him everywhere. Five years later he started to number and comment his artworks, which he collected in 29 «Bildbüchern (books of pictures)».

In the winter months from 1905 to 1907 he stayed in the Todtnauer Hütte, where a lot of his oil studies arise.
The snowy winter landscapes became his typical theme and he called himself «Schneemoler (snowpainter)». 1917 he received his professorship by Grand Duke Friedrich II.

In 1927 he had an exhibition with artists like Curt Liebich, Julius Heffner, Wilhelm Nagel, Wilhelm Wickertsheimer a.o., they called themselves «Die Schwarzwälder (the Black Forests)». He died on the 20th of March in 1935 in Hinterzarten. Today his works are extremely appreciated because the snowy landscape present the untouched nature.

Five scenes from the «Emblemata Sacra». Abraham and Lot separate (sheet 18), the Worship of the Golden Calf (sheet 47), Moses striking water from the rock (sheet 49), Moses burns the Golden Calf (sheet 50). Engravings. Each signed respectively monogrammed lower left in the plate. Numbered lower middle respectively upper right as well as titled and inscribed at the upper margin. Light stains, trimmed.
H 18,7 to 19,1, W 24,2 to 25,2 cm (sheet). Unframed.
Published by Bernardo Sellio Noviomago in Amsterdam 1613, the illustrated bible contains 61 engravings by Borcht showing scenes from the Old and New Testament.

The collection of the Freiburg neurophysiologist Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Richard Jung includes over 729 sheets of historic graphics that came together during his longstanding, extensive activities as a collector. Besides drawings from Central European artists before 1800, also some prints of the Renaissance are covered. After his death, most of the collection - apart from selected works in private possession - has been handed over to the Kunsthalle Karlsruhe and the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, who dedicated an exhibition to the collector Richard Jung in the year 1990.

Die von Bernardo Sellio Noviomago 1613 in Amsterdam veröffentlichte, illustrierte Bibel beinhaltet 61 Kupferstiche von Borcht mit Darstellungen aus dem Alten und dem Neuen Testament.

Die Sammlung des Freiburger Neurophysiologen Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Richard Jung umfasst über 729 Blätter historischer Grafiken, die während seiner jahrelangen, extensiven Sammlertätigkeit zusammengetragen wurden. Neben Zeichnungen zentraleuropäischer Künstler vor 1800 sind auch einige Drucke aus der Renaissance enthalten. Nach seinem Tod wurde die Sammlung - abgesehen von ausgewählten Stücken in Privatbesitz - großteils an die Kunsthalle Karlsruhe und die Staatsgalerie Stuttgart übergeben, welche im Jahre 1990 dem Sammler Jung eine Ausstellung widmeten.
