The Baden-Baden horse races on the racecourse in Iffezheim date back to the golden age of European spa towns, when the sophisticated, margravial residence on the edge of the Black Forest was not without reason called the «summer capital of Europe». In addition to the casino, thermal baths and theatre, horse racing also had a firm place in the entertainment programme of the cosmopolitan spa guests. To this day, prizes of honour are presented to the winning team at the Iffezheim racecourse. In 1967, a victorious team accepted the present cup, which was awarded as a trophy for a memorial race in honour of the late Margrave Berthold of Baden (1906 - 1963).
We would like to thank Mrs Celina Zindler, Baden Galopp GmbH & Co. KG, Iffezheim, for the kind remarks via
