Rösch, Franz Josef
1724
Portrait of a sovereign.
Oil on canvas. Verso signed and dated 1756.
H 75,
Portrait of a nobleman in fine clothing with a medal of the House of Habsburg around his neck. By his head a large coat of arms with the motto «Deus Spes Mea». Painted by the Freiburg painter and then director of the Freiburg drawing school Franz Josef Rösch, it can be assumed that the portrait was created in the context of the administrative seat of Further Austria at that time. Both the medal and the double-headed eagle in the coat of arms refer to this.
Provenance: Kaupp, Sulzburg, auction A 042, 16.05.2009, Lot 1317; since then Bantikow Castle, Wusterhausen/Dosse.
