Weiße Tara
White Tara. Tibet 18th C. Gilt bronze, partially blue painted. Monastery mark to base.
Tibet 18. Jh. Bronze, feuervergoldet und partiell blau bemalt. Auf rundem, von Perlfries umzogenem Lotosthron, sitzende, in einen Dhoti gekleidete Weiße Tara, die Beine in der dhyanasana-Haltung, mit den Händen die Vitarka-Geste formend. In der linken Hand eine Lotosranke. Geschlossene Bodenplatte mit Klostermarke. H. 26, B. 18,5 cm.
Die Weiße Tara zählt zu den bedeutendsten weiblichen Gottheiten des Mahayana, einer der drei Hauptrichtungen des Buddhismus. Die für sie typische Vitarka-Geste symbolisiert die Gunstgewährung und Opferdarbringung für die drei Buddhas.
