Sommer, Carl August attr.

H 73, W 100 cm (support). Framed.
Born in Upper Franconia, Carl August Sommer had a studio on Broadway in New York from 1867 to 1872. He later returned to Germany and settled in Altona.

Margins rubbed from framing, here and there considerable white shrinking cracks, closed tear (approx.
7 cm) middle right, stretcher pushing through to recto, pressure mark lower right with resulting paint loss (approx.
2 cm) and small hole (approx.
3 mm), numerous skilfully retouched spots mainly at the lower margin, support slightly brittle with resulting minor spots of paint loss (approx. 1 to
5 mm) and tiny holes (approx. 1 to
2 mm), isolated faint scratches (up to
15 cm).
