H 40,
«ROTAR often painted in a trance-like, meditative state, concentrating entirely on the spiritual situation. However, it was not spontaneous gestures that determined his artistic impetus, but a mental examination of the motif of the spiral. The spiral, for Rotar a symbol of the infinite, the primordial and the ancient eternity, was the theme in which he was able to express the basic questions of the cosmos and being in the most consistent artistic way. It is the key to his work.» Ingrid Skiebe, from: http://www.rotar22.de/biogr.htm.
Provenance: private collection South Germany.
