Candlestick with forget-me-not decor
Meissen 1860 - 1924. Porcelain, painted in polychrome colours and gold. Candlestick with applied rocaille decor, forget-me-not tendrils and mounted spout. A painted bouquet of flowers on each of three cartouches at the upper end of the shaft, isolated scattered insects. Underglaze blue sword mark with knob, model number «26/8» and assembler number «38».

The lovely, pale blue blossoms of the forget-me-not have always stood for a romantic promise of fidelity in the language of flowers. The evocative name of the plant, common since the Middle Ages, points to its symbolic status as an expression of deeply felt emotional attachment. According to an old folk belief, the unpretentious, strikingly simple appearance of its blossoms is reminiscent of the eyes of people, freshly fallen in love, and embodies the modest, humble hope of always being remembered by a loved one.
