In 1966 Ralf Winkler decided to work under the pseudonym A.R. Penck. He chose this name after the geologist and ice age researcher Albrecht Penck. This early work, probably created between 1952 and 1953, was signed by the artist on occasion of his solo exhibition «A.R. Penck in Dresden, Analyse einer Situation (A.R. Penck, Analysis of a Situation)» in 1992, which the artist conceptualised himself and showed works that had never been seen before.
