Horst Antes' sculptural œuvre is based on the formal language developed in his paintings. The so-called Kopffüßler (cephalopod) is the undisputed protagonist, which emerges as a sculpture from the flat picture into the open space and can be monumentalised consequently. The signature and number on the base are deliberately meant to disappear over time through the corrosive process of the material on the surface, whereby the sculpture eventually bears witness to itself.
