Cartier cocktail necklace «Boules et Cylindres»
Paris 1972. Yellow gold 18k. All-round banded, conically tapering cylinder links, with eyelets on both sides, connected with movable, round cable links. On the front 32 polished, movable gold spheres (Diam. 6,1, 7,1, 12,0 and
L 38,0 respectively
In addition to high-carat gemstone jewellery, Cartier has also managed to revolutionise the jewellery world since the 1920s with pure gold creations. The spherical shape in particular recurs in the collections and has thus become a trademark of the Parisian luxury jeweller. Playful and opulent at the same time, this piece of jewellery, which constantly modifies its shape under gentle tinkling, amazes with the lavish abundance of the sought after, beguilingly shimmering precious metal. The versatile «Boules et Cylindres» necklace follows the tradition of legendary gold jewellery, such as the imposing «Indien» necklace created by the London branch in 1939. It is also a typical child of its time, an indispensable accessory of the heyday of the international jet set, whose members nonchalantly adapted the playful, casual style of the hippies and combined it with sophisticated glamour.
