«Empaquetage». Stoff und Schnur. Biomorph geformtes Stoffobjekt in Braun mit roter Schnur und brauner Kordel umspannt. Verso sign. und (19)63 dat. H. 20, B. 13, T. 10 cm.
Berühmt geworden durch seine spektakulären und Aufmerksamkeit erzeugenden Verhüllungsaktionen, wie etwa die Verhüllung des Reichstags oder die verhüllte Kunst in Australien, hat Christo auch zahlreiche kleinere Objekte verpackt, wie Tische und Stühle sowie Verkehrsschilder und Motorräder. Durch diese Verfremdung entzieht der Künstler den Gebrauchsgegenständen des alltäglichen Lebens ihren eigentlichen Zweck und stilisiert sie zu Kunstobjekten. Der kleine, geschnürte Stoffsack lässt nicht einmal mehr ein Objekt erkennen und stellt das Ausdrucksmittel der Verpackung an sich in den Vordergrund. Das auf zahlreichen Ausstellungen präsentierte Objekt ist ein schönes Beispiel für die Arbeiten Christos der 1960er Jahre.
