Oil on canvas, mounted on masonite. Signed lower middle and dated badly legible 1847 respectively 1849. Verso on the stretcher on a printed label numbered «289».

Joseph Haecke studied history painting at the Königlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich and attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1833 to 1839. In 1848 he was one of the founding members of the Düsseldorf artists' association «Malkasten». His œuvre is mainly characterised by landscape and architectural motifs from the Rhine and Lahn regions.
