«It was the outrageously rich character of his homeland Transylvania that made him recognise the visual arts as a compelling means of expressing his talent. The form and content of his painting were determined by the elements that closely connected him with the blood of his German and Armenian ancestors, with the southern colours, with the contrasting mountain landscape of his homeland and with his music.
