Standing Buddha in Rattanakosin style
Thailand 19th C. Bronze, painted in red and black, and gilt. Buddha standing on an octagonal, detailed stepped lotus throne in richly decorated courtly dress with both hands in abhaya mudra. On his head he wears a high winged crown. Verso original ring for mounting.
H 46,8, W 11 cm.
«Abhaya mudra» is a gesture of encouragement that also serves the purpose of greeting and granting of protection.
Provenance: private collection Hamburg and Markgräflerland.
Condition report
Good overall impression. Figure on the lotus throne restored. Heavy gold spallings, especially on the back of the cloak, rubbed at the base and on the face, one crown wing and the tip bent.
