Museale, viktorianische Standuhr
Victorian long case clock of museum quality. John Smith & Sons, Clerkenwell second half 19th C. Gilt bronze, silver and mahogany. Eight-day movement, drum driven, hammer chime on nine tubular bells. Signed on plaque. Good fully functional condition. Case key, weights and winder. Provenance: Max Grundig auction, Baden-Baden, 1985; since then South German private collection.
John Smith & Sons, Clerkenwell 2. Hälfte 19. Jh. Bronze, vergoldet, Silber und Mahagoni. Auf vier Bronzeschuhen mit Voluten, gestuftes Gehäuse mit Vollsäulen und seitlichen Karyatiden. Mächtiger Hut von einer Vase und bronzener Frauenbüste bekrönt. Messingzifferblatt mit versilbertem Ziffernring, römischer Minuterie und arabischem Minutenring, dezentraler Sekunde bei der Ziffer 12. Links oben Schlagabstellung, rechts oben Einstellung für Schlagart, im Bogen Mondphase. Vollständig ziselierter und gravierter Fond mit Darstellungen von Vögeln in einer Landschaft sowie Vasenmotive. In den Ecken gesägtes, florales Volutenwerk. Acht-Tage-Gehwerk, Schlagwerk über Walze, neun Schlaghämmer auf Tonstäbe. Drei Gewichte mit Umlenkrollen. Auf Schild sign. Guter, funktionstüchtiger Zustand. H. 277,5, B. 72,5, T. 48 cm. Gehäuseschlüssel, Gewichte und Kurbel.
Die 1780 gegründete Firma zählte schnell zu Englands führenden Uhrmachern, die Uhren von klein bis groß im Programm hatte. Sie ist besonders für ihre Turmuhren, die sich nun in aller Welt befinden, bekannt.
