Parlo, Percy
1890 Petznick/Pomerania - 1967 Steinebach.
«Viry sur Orge».
Oil on cardboard. Signed lower right and badly legible dated 1911. Verso handwritten inscribed «Ecole de Paris» and with the artist's stamp. Verso on a printed label titled and another label with the artist's data.
H 43,
A winding, almost enchanted alley in Viry-sur-Orge, situated between Paris and the forest of Fontainebleau and today a district of Viry-Châtillon, served Percy Parlo, originally from Pomerania and a representative of the Paris School, as inspiration for this Fauvist-Expressionist veduta. In the background you can see the striking tower of the church Saint-Denis, a landmark of the charming little town, which is idyllically situated at the river mouth of the Orge in the Seine.
Provenance: private collection Munich.
