Staeglich, Nicola
Born 1970 Oldenburg, lives and works in Berlin.
«Hemis».
Oil on canvas. Verso signed and dated 2002.
H 185,
«Hemis» belongs to the group of works «Markha Valley», which was created after a long journey by Nicola Staeglich through the Indian Himalayas in 2000. The Markha Valley is in the north Indian province of Ladkh, which leads over high passes in the Himalayan region. As an objectification of the artist's visual experiences, the titles of the series can be assigned to specific places in the valley. Here, for example, the town «Hemis» is depicted.
The composition of all the paintings in the series consists of colour fields arranged in the basic figure of a square, which create an impression of spatiality through overlapping colour surfaces.
