Kaiserlicher neunteiliger Paravent mit Uferlandschaft
Imperial nine panel screen, depicting river bank with peacocks, cranes and ducks. China, Qianlong dynasty. Wood, painted in brown, gold and silver. Lower left four character seal mark and middle right inscribed in oracle characters. Signs of age.
The decoration of folding screens for representative purposes has a long tradition in China. Since the 10th century they were painted with motifs from flora and fauna and served as decoration for representative locations.
This example shines with the delicate and expressive character of its painting despite its consciously restricted spectrum of colours.

China, Qianlong-Dynastie. Holz, gefasst, bemalt in Gold und Silber. Innen prächtige Landschaftsszene mit verschiedenen Wasser- und Landvögeln, darunter Pfauen, Kraniche und Enten. Außen buddhistische Symbole wie Lotos, Fische, Muschelhorn, endloser Knoten und das Rad der Lehre sowie weitere Kostbarkeiten. U.l. Vierzeichen-Siegelmarke und Mitte r. in Orakelschrift bez. Altersspuren.

Die Dekoration von Paravents zu repräsentativen Zwecken hat eine lange Tradition in China. Bereits im 10. Jahrhundert wurden sie mit Motiven aus Flora und Fauna bemalt und losgelöst von ihrer raumtrennenden Funktion als Schmuck in repräsentativen Räumen genutzt.
Das vorliegende Exemplar brilliert darüber hinaus mit der Feinheit und Ausdrucksstärke seiner Malerei trotz eines bewusst eingeschränkten Farbspektrums.
