Stehende Schutzfigur
Standing patron, depicting Amset. Egypt, Saite period 7th/6th C. BC. Wood, painted in polychrome colours. Signs of age.
Together with the three further sons of Horus, called Hapi, Duamutef and Kebechsenuef, Amset is protecting the viscera of the mummified corpses as protective deity of the canopic jars. Already in the pyramid texts he is described as god of the canopic jars, as well as an aid and companion for the deceased on their transition into the realm of the dead.

Ägypten, saitisch 7./6. Jh. v. Chr. Holz, polychrom gefasst. Darstellung des Amset als mumienförmige Figur mit dreigeteilter Perücke und Pektoraldekor. Altersspuren.
H. (mit Sockel) 38,5, B. 13, T. 10 cm.
Gemeinsam mit den drei weiteren Horussöhnen Hapi, Duamutef und Kebechsenuef beschützt Amset die Eingeweide der mumifizierten Toten als Schutzgott der Kanopen. Bereits die Pyramidentexte beschreiben Amset als Kanopengott und Helfer sowie Begleiter der Toten bei ihrem Übergang in das Totenreich.
